Drama Therapy in Action: Students Observe and Learn at MHK Play Studio
At MHK Play Studio, we believe in the power of creativity, imagination, and connection. This semester, we have the privilege of hosting a group of drama therapy students who will join our team to observe how play occurs, interact with families, and provide interactive activities that serve as a foundation for therapeutic practices. Their presence offers a unique opportunity for us to reflect on the intersection between play and healing, and how our space can facilitate transformative experiences for all ages.
What is Drama Therapy?
Drama therapy falls under the creative arts therapies umbrella and uses play, embodiment, theatre games, improvisation, storytelling, performance and other theatre concepts to express feelings, set goals, enhance interpersonal skills, solve problems and so much more. This approach also incorporates other modalities like art, music, dance, and poetry. Insead of just talking, participants can act out situations and rehearse desired behaviors, use their imagination, and explore different life roles, which can help them better understand themselves and their emotions. It’s a fun and creative way to build confidence, improve social skills, and work through challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
